Brenda Stumpf: Through Salt & Ash

Friday May 23 - Friday June 20

Alpenglow Exhibition Space

THROUGH SALT & ASH is collection of artist Brenda Stumpf’s image-based work, intertwining nostalgia, history, and the poetics of place. The works on wood panel feature imagery from Colorado Springs, highlighting quarried areas at Red Rocks Canyon and a striking monolithic rock from the Garden of the Gods. Smaller works on paper depict the character of Colorado’s best-preserved ghost town, St. Elmo, with its wooden facades and haunting interiors.

The recent mixed-media paintings are sublime and steeped in a combination of dark drama and quietude. These feature monolithic rock formations that become totem-like and manufactured structures in nature — such as stairs that become a symbolic threshold and an invitation.

Deb Shannan: Aqua Depicta

Friday May 23 - Friday June 20

North Gallery

AQUA DEPICTA is series of photographs by Valley-based artist Deb Shannan. The artist greets the viewer of this exhibition with three intimate triptych works depicting local waterways in all their liveliness. The images Deb produces are layered as a composite with real silver leaf, creating a

diffused light effect, adding a sense of ethereality and wonder often experienced in-person with nature. To Deb, this series intends to present “a collection of meditative images that ask the viewer to slow down and feel the restorative nature that surrounds us in this beautiful valley.”

Documenting the reflections of colors and

patterns in bodies of water throughout the Roaring Fork Valley over the course of our dramatic seasons, Spring, Summer,Autumn and Winter, we experience the intense solitude and peace of witnessing the transient beauty of the moment.
